STV: Finally, we let Ethan finish

We chatted with Ethan "Neelix" Phillips earlier this year at home about his then-play Wirehead about to open...

...but couldn't pass up the opportunity for a few nods to Voyager's 15th premiere anniversary and his own dip into fandom... Or was that really his first? "Eight years since the butthead," in any case.

The "extra" was promised soon, and a breathless world has been patient. Take a look... are remember that any yak with Ethan takes you places you hardly expected ...

Eleven years ago—more than coincidence?

Having a blast so far at the second edition of Con du Lac in scenic Lake Charles, La...

...and a Twitter poster reminded me, in part, of a not-so-odd coincidence.

ELEVEN years ago this weekend we were at an equally smallish-but-fun convention in High Point, NC....another Southern con, obviously.

What binds these two together today beside the humidity index rating is what struck me just now: June 11, 1999 was the day we got word that DeForest Kelley had died. Back then, we were just about to go into opening ceremonies, so I broke it to the attendees and we had a moment of silence. After I had had my own. I think I'll remind the crowd here today.

Where were you when you heard the first of the Original Crew had passed on?

STV: Greece and I make Marina cry—!?

Who'da thunk that Marina Sirtis, London-bred but with deep obvious roots in Greece, had never been to a Trek convention in her ancient homeland?

She and I both recently had a great chance to be among the guests at a small convention on the south coast, Terraformers II, — though it was not as long a chat as the last time we did this, and we raced the growing shadows as the sun dipped low into the waterscape.  Of course, Marina helped catch up with Trekland on what's what and what's coming up. No dog rescue this year, but with so much of her brother's local family there, Auntie Mina was having a ball.

Except when she gets choked up... :-)

Don't think I've ever seen a con billboard...

...but, for Facebookers, this is cool:

I'll see y'all there in Southwest Louisiana at Con du Lac in Lake Charles this weekend, right in your own backyard! This is the second Con du Lac (love the name), so come help Justin Toney boost and grow multi-genre fandom in the area. Swamp humidity, or no.

Looking forward to seeing Roger "Trekkies" Nygard with his great new mind-bending film The Nature of Existence, Daryl "Professor Trek" Frazetti, BSG's Luciana Carro .....and Chase of course!!
