"The Captains" live (airs) again!

Posted this on Facebook TREKLAND ... but just in case you didn't hear:

That acclaimed Biography Channel documentary The Captains of the Final Frontier with yours truly and jillions of other brilliant folks reruns twice, early on Monday (maybe today by the time you read this!)—check my original Trekland post with the updated times and name list.

I've had lots of folks tell me they keep missing it—so here's your DVR's chance.

There's also new eps with Walter and LeVar for Shat's Raw Nerve show airing later, too, and other Trek stuff through the day. Check your listings!

Trekfans lean to the left?

Maybe it's just MY peeps from Trekland...

But reports of the militaristic bent of Starfleet attracting a similar slice of fandom since the 1980s may be highly overrated—at least, according to the FEEDBACK LOOP poll at larrynemecek.com we recently retired.

Usually you regulars will notice we rotate polls in and out much more often, at least every 2-3 weeks. But in honor of last fall's mid-term elections, we had politics as the name of the game at Feedback, and left it up until just last month. It was HARDLY scientific, mind you.

The results? Per the pre-worded options and replies, in major clumps we had about 42% self-identify as some flavor of liberal, 21% as moderate, nearly 16% as some conservative stripe ... 5 % as "write-ins" and 16 % as apolitical geeks. See for yourself:

And yes--we'll bring it back for a Round 2 sometime down the line!

Back on startrek.com: The forgotten anniversary—1986

Better late than never—or are we really in lineal time for this one?

I had the slot for startrek.com's guest post LAST week, but I was busy in Seattle. So... for all us slackers... here's the news flash:

"Trekland: Supplemental" #5 took on the idea of our love affair with Trek anniversaries—here now, with the 45th birthday [of the 1966 debut] already rollin' around again.

My larger point, though, was that one of the biggest other anniversaries largely goes not only unmarked, but underappreciated: the chain reaction that is 1986. And no, not for the obvious reason... I mean for the reason that it gave us both the franchise and the fandom that we have today. Take a look...

See ya, Seattle! Come say howdy at Emerald City ComiCon

Hey, if all goes well, we'll have a bigger splash than ever at Seattle's Emerald City ComiCon this weekend—Friday through Sunday.

There may be more surprises and impromptus... but for now check us out at these panels, all in Room 3AB:
—Friday,  5 p.m.: The return of my annual "Between the Cracks" Star Trek show: rare and blooper pics and info—and my big news of the year.
—Sunday, 1 p.m.: "Whither Star Trek?": Our traveling show and survey of the state of Star Trek today and in the future—heh: our opinions and your thoughts.

In between, I'll be tabling in the Exhibition Room in support of TREKLAND, larrynemecek.com, some of my past work, and this weekend's big news... check up later on!

Also in Seattle is friend & colleague Dr. Daryl Frazetti and his panels, with research and new books coming out on fandom—via anthropology: the fun kind, not the thick unintelligible kind.

Daryl will be sharing the table with me when not crazed by his schedule, also in Rm. 3AB:
—Friday, 4 p.m.: Anthropology of Star Wars
—Sunday, 11 a.m.:  Anthropology of Firefly
—Sunday, 2 p.m.: Cultural Symbolism of Gotham City and Metropolis

Oh, and Frakes, Spiner, Wheaton, and other guys 'n' gals will be there too. This marks Emerald City's first time to expand into three days, thanks to the new media influx. We'll see how it goes! And thanks again, Jim, for having us!

STV: John "Phlox" Billingsley hawks his own show!

No interview or even chit-chat here:

Just a couple minutes of John "Phlox" Billingsley in an inspired reaction to a small turnout for his Q&A hour on Sunday morning at the recent Hollywood Xpo. Well, this sure woke'em up.

I really don't have to say anything more—except that I'm sorry we didn't get his, ahem, pitch from the very beginning.

We join our rant already in progress...
